About Biological Sciences

Situated within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the UConn Biological Sciences Program is an interdepartmental program with a focus on educating undergraduate students.

The Program is home to one of the largest and most flexible majors at UConn. It shares resources and faculty across UConn's three specialized biology departments: ecology and evolutionary biology (EEB), molecular and cell biology (MCB), and physiology and neurobiology (PNB).

This unique structure allows biological sciences students to learn broadly about core biology concepts. They can also dive deep into specific topics that interest them most - in biology or other areas in the liberal arts and sciences - all while having access to opportunities at a Research I university.

Knowledge through Experience

UConn biological sciences majors and minors can choose from a wide variety of classes offered by UConn’s three biology departments. They also put their studies into practice through hands-on lab courses, research experiences, and internships.

Faculty Engagement

Students have direct access to their professors, and many undergraduates work on projects in faculty labs. Undergraduates can also take advantage of undergraduate research programs that give students financial and academic support to develop their own independent projects under the guidance of a faculty mentor.

Hands-on Advising

Biological sciences students work with advisors in the Biology Advising Center to select courses, discuss graduate schools, and find research opportunities. The Center also holds information sessions, workshops, and alumni events each semester to help students explore their professional options.
